When you are planning your wedding there's 101 things to be stressing about! Will the cake travel okay? Will my future hubby get too drunk the night before the wedding? Will our families get along? ... But wondering if your flowers will last until the next day shouldn't be one of them! I'm going to give you a few hints and tips to be mindful of to make sure there are no hiccups when it comes to preserving your flowers.
Number 1. Don't toss the bouquet! I know its tempting, but it could damage your flowers and effect the way they dry and preserve. Consider stealing a bridesmaids bouquet to toss instead, I'm sure they wont mind. Or you could always get a cheap artificial one to throw instead because lets face it anyone lining up to catch it will probably fight to the death to get their hands on it and then stare at their nervous significant other until they fall to their knee's in fear, or one knee preferably.
Number two, try and keep it upright.. Flower stems naturally seal themselves when they are unable to get any water, so ask your wedding coordinator or bar tender to keep a small vase or similar on hand for you to pop your flowers in. Leaning them on its side can cause them to bruise, and this may show up when they are cast in resin, especially white flowers!
Three... Try to handle as little as possible, unfortunately oils from our hands, moisturizers and soaps can transfer onto the petals, and these can cause translucent spots when they are dried in resin, your florist usually will wear gloves, but if you let them know you are having your bouquet preserved and ask them to try and keep your flowers as fresh as possible and not touch the petals too much and the difference will be insane! You're not being a bridezilla, you just want to be able to admire their work for many years to come!
Lastly, have everything ready and appoint someone to post and package for you. It is important to read my sending instructions before the big day, just to make sure you have everything you need when it comes to preparing them for posting. For example tupperware, a cardboard box, foil/clingfilm and kitchen towel. If you are going on your honeymoon the morning after your wedding, ensure someone is appointed to care for your flowers and ensure they are sent (you'll be surprised how many favors a stressed out bride can call in) & make sure they have the instructions to hand and just remind them my phone number is on my website should they need any help :)
